في المناطق ذات الظروف المناخية الحارة مثل المملكة العربية السعودية ، يتم استخدام حصة كبيرة من الطاقة لتبريد المباني. أظهرت العديد من الدراسات أن الأسطح الباردة (البيضاء) يمكن أن تساعد في تقليل حمل طاقة التبريد وبالتالي الطلب على الطاقة بمرور الوقت. أيضًا ، تساعد الأسطح الباردة في تقليل جزيرة الحرارة الحضرية خلال فصل الصيف. ركزت هذه الدراسة البحثية على تحديد: (أ) ما إذا كانت الأسطح الباردة تؤدي إلى مخاطر التكثيف ونمو العفن في المناخات السعودية ، (ب) مقدار توفير الطاقة نتيجة استخدام الأسطح الباردة بدلاً من الأسطح السوداء التي لها نفس كمية العزل ، و ( ج) تقليل كمية العزل في السقف البارد الذي له نفس مستوى أداء الطاقة مثل السقف الأسود. على هذا النحو ، تم إجراء عمليات محاكاة عددية لنظام تسقيف يستخدم بشكل شائع في المباني منخفضة الارتفاع في المملكة العربية السعودية من أجل تقييم ومقارنة أداء الطاقة والحرارة الحرارية للأسطح الباردة والسوداء. تعرض السقف لظروف الطقس في المنطقة الشرقية بالمملكة العربية السعودية. تم أخذ الظروف الداخلية بناءً على طريقة بسيطة لمعيار

. أظهرت النتائج عدم حدوث تراكم للرطوبة من سنة إلى أخرى بعد 6 سنوات و 7 سنوات للسقف الأسود والسقف البارد ، على التوالي ، وأعلى رطوبة نسبية في الأسود وكانت الأسطح الباردة أقل بكثير من 80٪ مما أدى إلى عدم وجود خطر حدوث تكاثف ونمو العفن في هذه الأسطح. أظهرت النتيجة الرئيسية لهذه الدراسة إمكانيات استخدام مواد عاكسة ذات معاملات امتصاص شمسية قصيرة الموجة مختلفة لتحسين أداء الطاقة للأسطح و / أو تقليل كمية العزل التي أدت إلى نفس أداء الطاقة مثل الأسطح السوداء. يمكن استخدام هذه الدراسة في المستقبل لتحديث كود البناء السعودي بحيث تسمح بعزل أقل للسقف إذا تم تركيب سقف بارد.
