Research The first step in preparing a
graphic design
solution is research or determining the parameters of the problem.
Who is the audience? What constraints are there in format, budget, and time? What is the goal of the project?
The next step is to gather and study all the related materials. Presenting this
design to a client (
or an
instructor will be easier if it is backed with solid research and justified from a perspective the client will understand.
Designers
may work in a large firm or agency where most of the research and information gathering is done by marketing professionals.
Visual research, however, is the designer's area. It's important to know what has been done before and what is being created locally and nationally
for this type of
design situation. Develop a feeling for contemporary work by studying
design
annuals, periodicals, and Web sites.
